One week until the Emerging Designers Portfolio in Kingston, and I am still on the lookout for a few more reviewers. Our event partner CoWork Kingston is very kindly offering day passes for anyone reviewing at the event too so you can just come for the day instead of having to hustle over in traffic in the evening. (This also applies if you have already registered). If you can't attend yourself, send along to someone in the design industry that might like to come to Kingston for the day, even if they are not already based there 💙

Hi everyone! I’m having my first solo art exhibition. My work is now up in the hallway space between Gallery 40 and Barbara’s cafe in Poughkeepsie. I’ll be there tomorrow afternoon if anyone wants to check it out but it’ll be up until May so anyone can see it any time. There’s another art show happening in the main gallery tomorrow as well and a wine bar downstairs and a brewery next door so it’s a nice place ☺️ I might plan a bigger event in May and do more art exhibitions/receptions in the future if anyone’s interested in those types of events!

Dearest Beloved and communities,

With the arrival of spring, we warmly invite you to gather with us in celebration of nourishment, renewal, and the beauty of shared stewardship.
On Sunday, April 5, we are coming together at Hudson Harmonic for Spring Root & Renew—a regenerative cooking demo, seasonal lunch, and community ritual rooted in honoring what we have and transforming it into collective growth :lotus:

{ 21N. 6th St, Hudson NY 12534 }

The Hudson Harmonic stands on the ancestral homeland of the Mohican (Mahican) people, the original stewards of this land and the river they called Muh-he-con-ne-ok—“the river that flows both ways.” This place was part of a wider Indigenous network of travel, trade, and relationship, with historic connections to neighboring nations including the Munsee Lenape to the south and the Mohawk of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We honor the Mohican people, their descendants, and the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples in this region.

This gathering is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with the land and each other, and remember the abundance that emerges through intention, creativity, and care :doveofpeace:

All raffle proceeds will support TapRoot Community Land Trust, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing local affordable housing and community land stewardship.

We’re shaking off winter together tonight with a Disco-inspired dance class
Wear your best disco diva outfit… or not. (But sparkles are always welcome

Think of your body like a disco
trillions of cells all dancing together, all the time.

The lights are always on.
The music is always playing…

But sometimes, we forget to step onto the dance floor.

So I’m creating a space for us to return
to make that move,
wake up the brain, the body, the spirit…
and let the rhythm do the rest.

Come sway, shimmy, and sparkle with me.

If you’re a foodie, you know how rare ramps are and how they are only found in a few places in the world. I’ve been building my own local food system in nyc since 2011 and Ramps are always exciting because it’s the first sign of spring in agriculture and they taste AMAZING.

Some of you may know that my wife Tracy is the cofounder of Moonshot Initiative, a nonprofit that works for gender equity in the film industry. In their most recent version of their filmmaking challenge, they included a Hudson Valley crew for the first time—some of the people in this slack group participated! Moonshot is hosting a screening at Rosendale Theatre later this month (on 4/23) to showcase the results.

In the film challenge, participants are placed on crews with women and gender-expansive filmmakers in every role of production. They provide cinema-quality equipment, production insurance, waivers to submit to film fests, etc. Many participants' careers accelerate after this program because of the connections they make during the challenge.

Please check out the link and consider attending to support this great organization. Hope to see you there!

He’ll share his knowledge in building products to support communities online and in-person, and we’ll get to help him think through ways to grow and enhance the product.

We’ll also talk about how to cut ties with a feature that isn’t serving you.

I'm co-hosting a new Storytelling Open Mic series called "Stories Uplifted" with @Giulienne Bartolome at Rot & Fallow, kicking off next Monday, April 27th!

Format is a bit more open than my other open mics/slams, so take a look at the details below if you're curious. We can't wait to share stories with you:)

The Stories:
Ten storytellers take the stage to share their work ~ from monologues, poetry, music (original or reimagined), or excerpts from works-in-progress.
• Stories are designed to take the audience on a journey as every piece is crafted with a clear beginning, middle, and end
• Each story-sharer is allotted 6 minutes at the mic
• Notes are okay, but make sure your story's been rehearsed before showtime
• Storyteller signups will happen at the door with limited spots, so come early!
The Evening:
Expect playful vibes, honest expression, moving performances and a room full of people who are super psyched to know you.
• Arrive during happy hour to mingle, enjoy your drinks and get settled
• Showtime starts at 7pm with a planned intermission and post-show hang time

Join the conversation

Ready to join the conversation? Enter the Slack community below.

What is Slack?

Slack is a chat platform, similar to Discord or Microsoft Teams or old-school IRC. It's meant to be used by businesses for team communication, but we're using it as a community platform. We picked Slack by popular request and it's worked out pretty well so far.

What's the difference between the Slack and the directory?

The directory allows you to showcase your work and find local creatives and professionals. The Slack is a chat platform for the community with active conversation happening all the time. They complement each other, and both are useful!

Why should I join?

Over 1,800 local creatives and professionals are in the group, connecting with each other and sharing opportunities. People are finding work, hiring locally, sharing resources, launching new projects, and generally being a community that's authentic and human rather than the opposite.

What's the vibe?

Conversation in the Slack is casual and human. There are lots of people introducing themselves, asking for recommendations, hiring people and sharing that they're ready to be hired, and announcing new events or projects. (And it's totally fine to just lurk, too!)
