Hi everyone!

I'm Ginger, a designer and graduating senior at SUNY New Paltz.

Tomorrow I'll be showcasing my thesis project, Re:Wear Hudson Valley, at the SUNY New Paltz Design Show and I can't wait to share it!

Re:Wear is a website prototype and interactive map highlighting the sustainable fashion community right here in the Hudson Valley. My goal is simple: help people discover the incredible local shops, makers, events, and resources that already exist in our backyard, and inspire more conscious choices about the clothes we wear.

This project went way beyond a screen. My research took me into the community, taking sewing classes, visiting local businesses, and hosting my own clothing swap and pop-up events. I also got hands-on with the clothes themselves. On display tomorrow will be six garments I personally mended, made from scratch, upcycled, and decorated, each one telling its own story.

The show is located on the 2nd floor of Wooster Hall on SUNY New Paltz's campus from 4-7pm. You can check out all the designers and their work @ 2026show.newpaltz.design

If you're in the area, come say hi. I hope to see you there!

Hi Sandy! Where in Germany are you from? (My dad’s from a tiny village not far from Würzburg, along the Main)
<@U0B05HDBS83> Small world! My dad grew up in Kreuzwertheim, a tiny town in Bavaria. I was last there in 2014... it's amazing how old everything there is, even compared to the oldest parts of the Hudson Valley. There was a plaque in the center of town commemorating the 1000th anniversary of its founding and listing all the original inhabitants, and my uncle pointed out that he went to elementary school with about half the last names listed on the plaque

I completely missed this earlier but seeing this as an East Fishkill resident going to see if I can get to the board meeting in an hour and half. <@U0B0FK57Z54> will see if I can provide emotional support. I'm not surprised our town was picked given the big industrial spaces/campuses left over from IBM, but given the impacts, we do not need this especially for our children who are growing up here and possibly will be playing soccer within spitting distance of where this center will be built

Any rough idea when this item in the agenda will be discussed? I just passed town hall after kids pickup and definitely appears like there a lot of folks starting to show up for the meeting
I see its point 7 on the agenda (balancing kids coverage so trying to gauge arriving closer to the start of the discussion)

I'm not going to make the community rally in east fishkill, but I heard there will be a public hearing on June 25th to propose extending the moratorium for 7 months. I think it needs to be longer than that and per Tom’s points more needs to be done.

Hey HV! Shared Stage is upon us - and bigger than ever!

Join us on June 13th at 7:30 PM for a night of short performances 💕 Our Shared Stage has become an ongoing event where we get to showcase Hudson Valley artists and their new works. We are thrilled to present a variety of experimental theater, comedy, aerial arts, improvisation, and dance, created and performed by local artists ⎯ Shailly Agnihotri, Jolly Joe Jester, MaiKSence, and Bound Aerial Collective.

This is also the first time we will have a vendor! The Humane Society of Walden will be tabling, selling their apparel to raise money for the shelter. They are a no-kill, non-profit safe haven dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

Shared Stage is held at WildHeart: Center for Performance and Embodiment Practice at 183 East Road, Wallkill NY. WildHeart strives to be a place that cultivates deep community. Tickets are on sale now! Let's come together and support these talented artists.

Join the conversation

Ready to join the conversation? Enter the Slack community below.

What is Slack?

Slack is a chat platform, similar to Discord or Microsoft Teams or old-school IRC. It's meant to be used by businesses for team communication, but we're using it as a community platform. We picked Slack by popular request and it's worked out pretty well so far.

What's the difference between the Slack and the directory?

The directory allows you to showcase your work and find local creatives and professionals. The Slack is a chat platform for the community with active conversation happening all the time. They complement each other, and both are useful!

Why should I join?

Over 1,800 local creatives and professionals are in the group, connecting with each other and sharing opportunities. People are finding work, hiring locally, sharing resources, launching new projects, and generally being a community that's authentic and human rather than the opposite.

What's the vibe?

Conversation in the Slack is casual and human. There are lots of people introducing themselves, asking for recommendations, hiring people and sharing that they're ready to be hired, and announcing new events or projects. (And it's totally fine to just lurk, too!)
