Watercolor retreat in French Polynesia
Hudson Valley artist and teaching artist Vaea Dang is inviting a small group of eight participants to join her for a seven-day watercolor retreat on Huahine, French Polynesia, March 19–26, 2027. (Sept 30th is the boking deadline)
Born and raised in French Polynesia and now based in the Hudson Valley, Vaea is bringing participants to an island she knows intimately for a week combining watercolor practice, island life, and time to slow down and observe. The retreat is designed for both newer and experienced watercolor painters, with guided sessions inspired by Huahine’s tropical plants, fruits, lagoon, landscapes, colors, and everyday life.
The group will stay at Hotel Le Mahana, a small beachfront hotel on Huahine. The retreat includes six nights of accommodation, daily breakfast and dinner, airport transfers on Huahine, watercolor instruction with Vaea, art supplies, and planned experiences around the island. There is also unscheduled time to swim, rest, explore, sketch, or simply enjoy being there.
This is intentionally not a large tour or a packed workshop schedule. With only eight painting participants, the experience is meant to feel personal and immersive, with time for individual guidance and the opportunity to experience Huahine through the perspective of someone who calls French Polynesia home.
Solo travelers are welcome, as are non-painting partners or companions. Instruction is available in English and French.
Dates: March 19–26, 2027 Location: Huahine, French Polynesia Group: Maximum 8 watercolor participants Registration deadline: September 30, 2026
